Fun Parades, Boat Flotillas, Flyovers, and Fireworks
Georgetown County’s coastal towns and communities know how to celebrate Independence Day. From whimsical community parades and tidal creek boat flotillas to live music, beachside patriotic flyovers, and dazzling fireworks, our coastal communities each put their own unique spin for the Fourth of July holiday. Whether you are a lifelong local or a vacation rental visitor to Litchfield Beach or Pawleys Island, you can find a way to celebrate and enjoy the holiday!
JULY 3 – Georgetown’s Music in the Park
Time to dance like nobody’s watching! Music in the Park is hosted by the Georgetown Business Association and free to all. Beer & wine available for purchase. No coolers. Bring your chairs and dancing shoes. Enjoy sounds of soul and beach music by Chairmen of the Board between 6 and 9 PM at Maritime Park located at 725 Front Street in Georgetown.
JULY 4 – Pawleys Island Parade
Express your patriotism in this year’s 60th July Fourth Parade on Pawleys Island using anything for a makeshift mobile float decorated in any red, white, and blue theme. Parade begins at 10 AM.
An application to enter a float can be obtained from the Town Hall, 323 Myrtle Ave., Pawleys Island – call 843-237-1698 or email info@townofpi.com for more info. Trophy categories include Best Overall Float, Best House, and Best Dock: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category.
JULY 4 – North Litchfield Beach Children’s Parade
Also beginning at 10 a.m. on July 4 is the North Litchfield Beach community children’s parade. Starting on Hanover Drive, the parade winds through the beachside neighborhood featuring lots of golf carts, bikes, scooters, wagons, and even strollers (no combustion engines allowed). This parade puts all the focus on family fun and the Fourth of July!
JULY 4 – Salute from the Shore
Starting at 1 PM, F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base will make their way down the coastline of South Carolina, beginning at Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach and ending in the Beaufort/Bluffton area in the Lowcountry. Following the active military aircraft will be an all-volunteer brigade of Warbirds, a civilian-owned and flown vintage plane community that will include T-34s, T-6s, and T-28s.
The vision is to create an opportunity to honor our armed forces by organizing a synchronized “Salute from the Shore” to our troops during the military flyover along the entire South Carolina coastline on Independence Day to be shared across the nation and around the world. JULY 4 – Murrells Inlet Boat Parade and Firework Show
The 43rd annual Murrells Inlet boat parade, starting at 10:00 AM, kicks off a day-long celebration of independence at the MarshWalk! Festively decorated boats cruise through the inlet for all to see, beginning at the Garden City Point and continuing through Murrells Inlet.
Enjoy live music along with great food and drinks throughout the day. Plan to stay to witness the Grand Strand’s largest aerial fireworks show, the Annual Fourth of July Fireworks on the MarshWalk. At 10:00 pm the sky will fill with colors of red, white, blue and beyond for incredible, awe-inspiring 20-plus-minute firework show.
The next day, July 5, lend a hand for the Inlet Clean Up. Help rid the Inlet of debris and any trash that may end up in our beautiful environment so we can keep the waters and shoreline clean and safe.
JULY 4 – Concert on the Kaminski House Lawn
Locals and visitors are invited to the Kaminski House Museum lawn from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM for a patriotic evening of music and community as we celebrate 250 years of Independence with the Indigo Choral Society. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and family for this free community concert. It’s also a great place to view the city’s annual fireworks show at 9:30 PM.
JULY 4 – Morgan Park Fireworks Display
In the City of Georgetown, South Carolina, the 4th of July fireworks display will take place at Morgan Park, directed by the Georgetown City Fire Department. This crowd pleasing annual fireworks display is scheduled to start around 9:30 p.m. and can be enjoyed from East Bay Park or from Harborwalk in downtown Georgetown.
Expert Tips for Local Fireworks Safety
Our local Fire/EMS teams recommend leaving the fireworks to the professionals. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports numerous fireworks-related deaths and injuries every year. If you absolutely insist on doing fireworks yourself here are some tips from Georgetown County Emergency Services:
- Only use fireworks in a safe, open area away from homes, dry grass, and flammables
- Never allow children to handle fireworks, not even “just sparklers”
- Keep a bucket of water or a hose close by
- Light one at a time and move away quickly
- Never relight a “dud” — wait 20 minutes, then soak it in water
- Completely soak used fireworks before disposal
