If you’re headed to coastal South Carolina for a late summer vacation your timing is absolutely ideal. Maybe you’re the type of person who loves the beach but hates the crowds? Perhaps you prefer to break away and be off by yourself or in small groups.

Just 15 minutes south of downtown Myrtle Beach is Pawleys Island, S.C. The area is beautiful, less overrun with tourists and with low-density development. The natural environment has been preserved here. It’s a beautiful place to vacation to.

The biggest plus is the quality of vacation you get when you visit the area. Pawleys Island has some of the best restaurants in the south plus you don’t have to fight the busy crowds in the summer just to get a great meal. The beaches are also more secluded.

As far as cost, vacationing in Pawleys Island is not much different that Myrtle Beach. Just like Myrtle Beach there are some off-the-beach Pawleys Island Rentals. However the area has kept a low-density policy on building so during the real estate boom the area did not have any new high-rise condominiums built oceanfront.

Pawleys Island beaches have been so secluded sea turtles have chosen the white sandy beaches to lay their eggs. Many of the locals have been very protective over these sites where sea turtle nests have been commonly found in the past.

While there are many reasons you should vacation in the Myrtle Beach area, the choice is clear if you want a high quality peaceful vacation, away from all of high traffic areas but close enough to enjoy endless options of fun, come to Pawleys Island, SC and take a look at our Pawleys Island Rentals.

Coming to the Litchfield/Pawleys Island area and want to simply relax? Need some ideas? Here are a few suggestions:

*The obvious – curl up with a book in a Pawleys Island hammock
* Gather the family together on the screened porch, peel some shrimp, and eat some fresh local produce found at the Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays.
* Get your lounge chair, your cooler, and hit the beach (another obvious….but don’t forget the sunscreen and umbrella; relaxing can turn to painful quickly!)
*Go over the Litchfield Inn, sit on the sundeck, listen to some good music, and enjoy a cold beverage
* Rent some bikes and in the morning (don’t wait too late!) go for a long bike ride along our uninterrupted strand.
*Go to Murrells Inlet to Capt. Dick’s Marina and rent a pontoon boat, pile all the family aboard, and “putt-putt” through the Inlet enjoying wildlife and refreshing breezes.
*Brookgreen Gardens – that says it all! But, go in the evening when it is a bit cooler and maybe enjoy a little dinner among the oaks and sculpture.
* Take a day to meander through the Hammock Shops. Canopied with live oaks, you can relax and enjoy local treasures in an historic setting.
* Fish – whether it’s surf-fishing, fishing in the creeks or Inlets, fishing on the river, or even in the small lake in Litchfield By the Sea. Bait your hook, throw your line in, and relax and wait for the fish to bite – or not!

These are just suggestions – we know you can find your own ways to relax in the Litchfield/Pawleys Island area!

Recently I had the dubious honor of having to come back to the Litchfield area on a Saturday – WOW! My route took me through Aynor and Conway down 501…Those of us who live here have no idea what you guys do to just get to us and start your vacations! So, we have come up with a few tips to make it here with less congestion…

* Those of you coming from the Charlotte area may want to consider coming down Interstate 77 to Columbia, getting on Interstate 26 to Charleston, and coming north on Hwy. 17.

* Those of you coming from the High Point/Greensboro area have it made! That route coming on Hwy. 73/74 is amazing! Just make sure that if you are using your GPS, once you get to around Bennettsville change the route setting for the closest – not freeways. It wants to take you to Interstate 95 and that is way out of your way!

* If you are coming in on Hwy. 501, take the Hwy. 544 exit just east of Conway. This gets you out of the bottleneck in Myrtle Beach. You also have an option of taking Hwy. 707 off of 544 that will avoid the congestion at the Hwy 544/Hwy 17 overpass.

* The best suggestion we have – use the Litchfield Real Estate early check-in! For just $60 you can have a guaranteed 1 p.m. check-in. I was coming through Conway at about 12 noon and believe me, the traffic was going to get much, much worse! Get an early start and get checked in before the traffic becomes awful! However, this does not mean to come to the Litchfield Real Estate office prior to 3 p.m. We only guarantee early check-in for just a few properties on a first-come, first-serviced basis and all other check-ins are between 3-5.

My family and I had visited Pawley’s Island previously and were searching for a modest home for a week’s vacation. We found Litchfield Realty and Flickinger on line. Descriptions were clear and accurate, rates were posted and most reasonable, and the staff at Litchfield was wonderful. (I particularly liked the fudge at the Saturday morning check-in.) We hope to return in the future.

We absolutely LOVED Flickinger. The house was spacious, nicely furnished and provided ample privacy for everyone staying with us. The location was so nice. The walk was quick and the privacy of the home as compared to other beach destinations was unparalleled. We absolutely loved our time on Pawley’s staying at Flickinger. We have rented other beach houses on the island but this was my favorite by far. My only complaint was that there was no bathtub to bathe small kids in. My 9 month old fit nicely in the sink but my older son had to quickly figure out how to take a shower which he wasn’t too thrilled about. Otherwise, there was absolutely nothing that we didn’t enjoy about the house.

We have stayed on the north end of Pawleys Island for over 30 years. About 4 years ago we decided that with children now married and grandchildren arriving, we needed more space. We had watched Billy’s Legacy being built while staying nearby and were underwhelmed by it’s external charm. We had always stayed in old beach house types. When we saw the interior, we were sold. It has a well thought out floor plan and wonderful views of the creek and the ocean. With four little girls and lots of equipment to take to the beach, we would like to be closer to the beach but we could never give up the creek. Sitting on the dock is my favorite beach activity. We crab and kayak and have cocktails watching the sunset. Just writing this makes me want to go this weekend.
